Cruz and Hawley are traitors and should be in jail.
The pair of right-wing congressmen have exploited right wing supporters and led them astray. They are both lawyers and knew that what they were saying was nonsense. They participated in this charade along with President Trump in order to create chaos, foment insurrection, enlarge the chasm between political fractions already existing, and benefit themselves politically. They may have gone a bit too far however because they have even received some criticism from fellow Republicans in congress.
For weeks Hawley and Cruz cast doubt on the 2020 Presidential election because they did not agree with the result: A Trump loss. They were among the first in the Senate to publicly state that they will oppose the certification of Joe Biden’s electoral college win; This opposition stemmed from Trump’s claim that his loss was solely attributable to election fraud and it lent air of legitimacy to the disproved idea that this election was rigged. MAGA rioters stormed the Capitol on January 6th, 2020 and as direct result 6 people have died. Hawley and Cruz, along with Trump, were inciters of this riot. They showed a disregard for the life and safety of Trump supporters, Capitol police (Blue Lives Matter right?) and even their colleagues. They have put peace in this country in danger and made America even more of a laughingstock to the rest of the world. It would be a shame and a missed opportunity of monumental proportions if the behavior of people like these were just swept under the rug. Dems are so weak and thus far, the overwhelming majority of them have shown lack of appetite to at least attempt confront this Cruz-Hawley problem.
The duo has faced calls to resign but their plan seems to be to weather the storm and defend their actions as exercising their rights as elected officials and bringing up valid questions about election integrity. They have incentive to step down. Indeed, their current office positions them near perfectly and gives them the platform needed to influence as many right wingers as possible in order to potentially run for the office of President of the United States of America. Their positions give them the platform to spread untruths, which are usually insufficiently unchallenged by Democrats and also endear them to the rabid Trump base. These sick individuals have no reservations to the type of damage they will cause in order to further their political goals.
Cruz has started backtracking and saying Donald trump has been talking recklessly. The truth is that Cruz is one the people who most encouraged this rebellion and if the rioters were smart, he would have been in their crosshairs. Cruz went from criticizing Trump before he was president, to laying down at his feet (with his wife’s honor next to him) to again half ass criticizing him as Trump leaves office. Cruz should be the real enemy of the so-called patriots who stormed the Capitol. He is only with Donald when it is advantageous to him. Turn on the heat, and lyin Ted, the sniveling coward beta that he is changes his tune. Cruz is a spineless sycophant
Hawley has faced some backlash but not enough. His old mentor, former Senator John Danforth, called supporting Josh’s candidacy the “biggest mistake I’ve ever made.” Simon and Shuster did the right thing by canceling his book deal. More needs to be done. For her part, newly elected Democrat from St Louis, Cori Bush correctly characterized Hawley. “He is a disgrace to this state. He does not deserve to be in this position, and we are calling for his removal immediately. While his intelligence is overblown, the far-right scumbag is far from stupid and know what he is doing. You will never see him pump his fist in the air for or support social justice causes, Josh was quick to raise his fist in the air in a nod to the seditious conspirators shortly before they infamously attacked the Capitol. Hawley is dangerous and is in the same white supremacist mold as smooth talking far right-wing seducer Tucker Carlson.
Even if it doesn’t work, enough lawmakers need to hop aboard Cori Bush’s bill to expel congressional members who called for and promoted the insurrection and descent into the Capitol. Articles of impeachment have already been drafted against Trump, who will be leaving office in about a week so why forgive unpatriotic, dangerous, traitors who will be in power for many more years.
Dems need to take the gloves off and refer to these people as traitors and continually shame them. The Lincoln project, which by the way, runs better ads than any democratic firm in the country need to take out scathing but truthful ads against these traitors. Legislatively, democrats ought to push an agenda which will benefit the American people and bring attention to the traitor’s blatant disregard for the life of Americans and the peace in America.
